BEST TO TOOLS FOR PORTRAIT DRAWING

While drawing not only do your skills makes the art beautiful but the materials used for drawing also make the art more beautiful. Some of the tools will be helpful to make the art more perfect and some particular techniques need specific tools. Then, what are the materials to be used? Let’s see in each type;



Tools for portrait drawing

  • In portrait drawing the most of the works depends on shading, in some parts needed sharp and dark strokes to represent the portrait more highlighted. The drawings sheet for a portrait is the important material or is also the main tool for portrait drawing, for portrait 200 GSM to 250 GSM will be more suitable.

  • For shading, you can use blending stumps, for sharp strokes you use charcoal pencils available in soft, medium, hard.

  • Then when we come to drawing elements in the face such as mouth, eyes, nose, etc.., you can use pencils like 3H, 2H, HB, 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B, 10B & 12B, these types of pencils represents the increasing order of darkness.

  • In portrait drawing white pencils are also used for some small highlights like in drawing white beard, white shades of hair, mainly in white dot in the eyeball. This gives a nice finishing for a portrait.
